Professor of Communication. Specialist in communication reticence, intercultural communication, organizational communication and group communication. He maintains three research tracks: (1) reticence: the study of individuals who are chronically silent, including the relationship between computer mediated communication and reticence, (2) cross-cultural research on Japanese versus American communication behaviors and predispositions and (3) the effectiveness of interfaith dialogue via the Internet. He's written for numerous publications and serves on the editorial boards of Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Communication Reports, and Journal of Intercultural Communication Research. He was a visiting fellow at Harvard University, studying world religions and interfaith dialogue.
