Associate professor of Music. Grammy winning hornist Marian Hesse is a Specialist in early brass instruments and music; nonprofit corporations in music; and chamber music. Ms. Hesse has performed chamber music recitals and solos in 49 states and is an accomplished performer on historical instruments from the Renaissance, early 19th century and the Civil War eras, including the sacbut, quinticlave, natural horn, hunting horn and alto horn. As a recording artist, she has released more than 16 recordings, many with the renowned Chestnut Brass Company. These range from performances on early brasses to recent works for brass quintet. Ms. Hesse serves on the Advisory Council for the International Horn Society; the Board of Directors for the International Horn Competition of America and is a juror for the international Brass Festival and Competition in Jeju, Korea. She has been a finalist in the Naumberg Chamber Music Competition and a semifinalist in the Erwin Bodky Early Music competition.
