Hantaviruses are rodent-borne and can cause hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS). Infected rodents show little symptoms of disease and remain infected for life. Human infections lead to plasma leakage in the lungs and the resulting hypotension leads to cardiac failure an death in most untreated patients.
