Professor of Organic Chemistry and chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Specialist in the design and preparation of molecules that contain nitrogen and oxygen. His research involves the development of new methods for the preparation of those molecules and the study of their interactions with biological systems. In particular, his research focuses on the design and study of anti-Type 1 diabetes and anti-cancer drugs.
Design, synthesis, and interaction of acridine-based drugs with DNA.
Development of new routes to the preparation of nitrogen and oxygen containing molecules. Study of those reactions and identification of procedures that are less hazardous than currently used.
Design, synthesis, and evaluation of compounds that interact with macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). Development of new procedures to the preparation of existing antagonists of MIF. Application of antagonism to other diseases based on this inflammatory response.
