Professor of Geography. Specialist in paleoenvironmental reconstructions. He is a physical geographer and his research involves reconstructing past climatic and environmental conditions using tree rings, pollen, organic and magnetic sediments preserved in wetlands and lake sediments throughout the Western U.S. and in Southwest Turkey. His recent research interest concerns the relationship between human activity and past environmental changes in Colorado. He has worked on numerous projects funded by both federal agencies and private foundations including the National Park Service (NPS), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the National Geographic Society (NGS).
