Buffalo Buddies

Buffalo Buddies is an after school program at Dos Rios Elementary School where UNC students spend an hour a day with a student that needs extra help on their homework. It is a great opportunity for UNC students in the Elementary Education program because they will get experience helping children learn and figure out their homework, but no prior knowledge is necessary. A accepting and loving environment provides a great way for students to gain experience, and impact the life of a child who is struggling.
If you would like to become involved with Buffalo Buddies, contact Ashley Cooper at coop3425@bears.unco.edu. Time slots are Monday (2:15-3:15), Tuesday (3:45-4:45), Wednesday (3:45-4:45), Thursday (3:45-4:45), and Friday (3:45-4:45).

D-6 Program

District 6 offers a wider variety of opportunities for UNC students to get experience in the elementary classroom. Bear Hug has partnered with District 6 to allow UNC students to get paired up with a class to help that teacher with anything they need. It is a low stress volunteer opportunity that allows students to see into a classroom and learn without actually having to teach students yet. It is a great opportunity for Freshman or Sophomores in the Elementary Education program because it allows students to really decide if teaching is the career for them. If you would like to become involved with District 6, contact Ashley Cooper at coop3425@bears.unco.edu
