A stunning image by UNC Professor Rick Adams went viral after placing 15th in Nikon's global Small World Contest. Adams injected red and blue dyes into a third-trimester fetus of a flying fox fruit bat and then used rubbing alcohols to produce the see-through effect similar to a 3-D, color X-ray. The work is part of his study on bats' wing development.
