Frontiers of Science Institute Summer Employment Opportunities

Frontiers of Science Institute needs summer instructors and mentors for our six-week program.

Program Dates: June 13 - July 22, 2022
Service Dates: Begins one week before program start and ends one week after program end.

Residential Advisors

Undergraduate residential advisors are needed for the periods June 12 - July 22. The position requires overseeing 25 high school student in a dorm setting and directing students toward daily activities. Research Mentors

Status: Needed (on-campus & online)

Faculty or graduate students will mentor a group of up to 4 students students on a research project. Students are encouraged to develop a project, but the project can be based on existing research of the lab to which they are assigned.

The interests of students this year are in the areas of: Medical Sciences (including Nursing), Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Computer Science/Engineering, Computational Modeling, Physics (particularly dynamics), and Psychology. However, applicants outside these areas are encouraged.

Qualifications

Status as graduate student, faculty, or employment in research or the tech industry.

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-service training.
  • Meet with students at least once per week.
  • Ensure development and execution of research or computer engineering project.
  • Coach students while they write individual research papers and prepare a collective research poster and presentation.
  • Assist with additional activities as needed

Compensation

Stipend: $800 - $1200 depending on the number of students mentored.

Instructional Staff

Instructors needed in STEM fields. Instructors must be able to work as members of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team. Some weekend and evening work is required.

Qualifications

Instructors must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in their field – recent graduates, current teachers and graduate students are encouraged to apply.

A Master’s degree or ABD status is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Attend pre-service training.
  • Develop integrated, hand-on curriculum that incorporates high order thinking skills.
  • Participate in orientation.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Teach daily for two weeks.
  • Assist with FSI special activities
  • Write an evaluation on student advisee.
  • Submit FSI teaching experience narrative at end of program.

Optional duties that increase pay level:

  • Teach more than one two week course section.
  • Mentor student research
  • Lead weekend camping trip.
  • Lead weekend field trips.
  • Transport students as needed

Compensation

Stipend: $2,500 - $6,300 depending on commitment time.
