Dr. Pullen is an immunologist and faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences at UNC. His research involves immune system effects of exercise and nutritional supplements. For example, his lab has worked on describing the molecular immunology for how berberine works as an intervention for autoimmunity and cancer-specific activation of the immune system. He also has a longstanding interest in mast cell biology and immunology education. He is co-editor-in-chief of the large data journal Data in Brief (Elsevier) and current chair of the Education Committeeof the American Association of Immunologists. Dr. Pullen teaches a variety of courses in cell biology, medical physiology, and immunology for undergraduates, graduate students, and medical students.
