Professional/Academic Experience

Greetings! My name is Teresa, and I am a fifth-year undergraduate studying Psychology and Sociology. I’m passionate about mental health advocacy and finding ways to better support mental health, as well as break stigmas and stereotypes surrounding mental health and certain disorders. I am also passionate about finding ways to bring quality mental health care to underrepresented and underprivileged communities in need of support. These passions have helped to shape my long-term goals of earning my Ph.D., becoming either a clinical or counseling psychologist working in rural communities to promote mental health, and hopefully promoting a bit of health psychology, too. As for now, my current goals are to conduct research related to mental health and medications, and to be the first person in my family to graduate with their Bachelor’s. I am currently a Research Assistant in Dr. Doug Woody’s research lab, an intern advocate for UNC’s Assault Survivor Advocacy Program, and an undergraduate teaching assistant for Dr. Lisa Woody’s Health Psychology course. In my free time I love hiking with my fiancé, road cycling, listening to Fall Out Boy, and taking myself on coffee dates. I can’t wait to see what all I can accomplish with the McNair Scholars program and look forward to graduating in the Spring of 2020 (on my birthday, too)! Go Bears!
