Abril Olivas

I am Abril Olivas, and I am a Mexican American Studies Major with an emphasis in Secondary Teaching, a Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) endorsement and a Spanish Minor. I was born in El Paso, Texas, and I am a first generation student, as well as a first generation American because both of my parents are from Mexico. I was guided by my high school teachers to pursue higher education, a space I did not known about nor thought I was capable of researching. My goal is to graduate and to become an educator so that I too can inspire and motivate students to reach their true potential. My favorite place to be is to be in a space of learning, whether it is in a classroom, or a New Student Orientation when I was an orientation leader, I love to be in spaces where students are learning new things and building their future. I believe in the power of mentorship, encouragement and learning; furthermore, I believe in the importance of Education.
