B.A. Generalist - Denver Program
The School of Special Education now has two program options available for those interested in completing their Bachelor’s degree in special education! UNC’s Center for Urban Education, located in Denver, offers an option for those who reside in the Metro area. This program provides both recent high school graduates, as well as nontraditional students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree as well as Colorado K-12 Special Education Generalist licensure. Special education graduates are eligible for the added K-6 Elementary Education endorsement, after taking and successfully passing an Elementary Content Exam. Additional course work may or may not be required.
Let me share with you a few items that make this program unique from traditional teacher preparation programs:
- Students spend time in a classroom as a teacher apprentice - beginning year one of their program
- Students may receive pay as well as college credit
- Students are mentored by a master teach with a background in special education
- Students attend classes (afternoon or evening) at the Center for Urban Education
- Courses offered in block formats, allowing students to complete requirements for a math, English or History class, within 5 weeks.
