The College of Humanities and Social Sciences held a convocation ceremony on February 25th to honor outstanding students. Students were able to bring guests and were recognized by the staff.

Students were celebrated for their dedication and hard work in and out of the classroom. They were given a certificate of accomplishment signed by the dean, Jim Doerner.

Doerner explained that he looks forward to the convocation each spring.

“The convocation is really special to us because it acknowledges the excellence across all our academic students and highlights the diversity and uniqueness of our disciplines.” Doerner said.

The College also recognized DebieSue Polsley for her undergraduate research on childhood poverty. Polsley’s research will directly impact policy interventions and governance for struggling families.

Each discipline within the college sought different qualities in the students, among the top reasons were GPA, going above and beyond for all assignments, and school involvement.

Sabrina Patten, a political science and international affairs junior, recognized the hard work she has done to receive this award.

“I’ve always been very dedicated to my interest and to my majors especially, um I think when you're passionate about something it’s easy to dedicate yourself to it whole heartily and I think that’s what you see with a lot of the nominees tonight,” Patten said.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences holds a convocation ceremony every spring and staff are looking forward to honoring more students next year.
