When the employees of King Soopers went on strike, they caused The Girl Scouts of Colorado to scramble for new cookie booth locations.

With The Girl Scout cookie season starting, cookies can be found in front of local stores. The Girl Scouts are not able to sell outside of the King Soopers that are participating in the strike. The Girl Scouts planned to sell in front of over 77 King Soopers locations, with the strike they have suffered a significant loss of booth locations.

Katlynn Shearing, member of the Weld County Girl Scout troop, shared how the strikes affected cookie sales.

“All the King Soopers by us aren’t on strike so we haven't had any problems,” Sharing said. “But I know tons of girl scouts have had huge issues with finding places to sell cookies.”

The funds from the cookies are used to help fund The Girl Scouts summer trips. On top of raising money the cookie program also teaches the girls lifelong career skills such as money management, goal setting and entrepreneurship.

“We're actually getting to learn the business skills behind it,” Shearing said. “Learning how to sell, what you do door to door and being able to stand outside in the cold.” Shearing said.

As the season continues The Girl Scouts hope more and more businesses will partner with them and open booths.
