Battling the snow and cold, volunteers man their stations ready to accommodate the Greeley masses. On February 11, UNC hosted the mobile food pantry, in collaboration with the Weld County Food Bank.
“Today we’re out here, on this very cold Tuesday, at the mobile food pantry event,” Taylor Schiestel, Director of Student Outreach and Support said.
“There’s no qualifications to come, you can just come and sign in with your name, and we feed you.”
The mobile food pantry hosts an impressive variety of foods for partakers to enjoy, including fresh fruits, vegetables, ground beef, milk and the ever-expensive eggs.
While the event may be open to the public, University of Northern Colorado students are encouraged to swing by. Students who braved the cold this Tuesday left with their food needs met.
“I’m just collecting some eggs, they're hard to find in the grocery stores these days, especially cheap ones.” Said one UNC student. “Also, the meat was nice to find.”
“I’m here to get a little something extra outside of the dining halls that UNC provides.” Another student said.
Schiestel said that even for those who missed it this month the mobile food pantry will make its return to UNC in the near future.
“So, every second Tuesday of the month,” Schiestel said. “Weld Food Bank will bring their truck out to C lot and come and provide free fresh produce for all our student staff and faculty.” Said Schiestel.
As long as patrons come with their names and own bags, they can expect to leave with free food.
