Luna's Closes for an Indefinite Amount of Time

Luna’s Tacos and Tequila, a popular downtown eatery, announced that it will temporarily close its doors for an undetermined period. The restaurant, a staple in the Greeley community since opening in March 2018, made the announcement on social media on January 27, citing a need to "reenergize, refocus, rejuvenate, and come back stronger."

The closure follows Luna’s last day of business on Sunday, January 26. Since then, the restaurant’s Greeley location has remained closed, with entry restricted to the public.

Despite its success — including plans to open a second location in Windsor this April — no specific reasons were given for the closure. However, the Instagram post emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses during this time.

Former Luna’s employee Callum Mitchell spoke about some of the potential factors that may have contributed to the closure, citing the restaurant's high employee turnover rate. He also mentioned the challenges posed by the building’s age, noting that it is over 100 years old.

Mitchell added that a few staff members were offered the chance to transfer to the new Windsor location, but for most employees, the closure meant losing their jobs without prior notice. “The whole staff found out that day.” he said.

When asked whether he would consider returning to Luna’s in the future, Mitchell was firm in his decision. “I think the way that they let us all go was very strange.” he said, indicating he would not return.

While the reasons behind the closure remain unclear, it is evident that adjustments are needed for the restaurant to come back stronger. Until then, Greeley residents will have to look elsewhere for their taco fix.
