People were conversing and participating here and there for a solid three hours Friday night at the University Center. The Veterans Services hosted a bake sale/game night/silent auction in support of a UNC Student Veteran who is dealing with cancer.
Games included Bingo, Yahtzee, and an arcade game where a person could practice their aim on a virtually projected shooting course. Bingo and the arcade game were the most popular games of the night. In Bingo a person could win a small package of gifts that included things like gift cards to Subway, badges, a coffee mug and other small doodads.
Tom Marquart, a veteran and UNC alumni, kept the crowd entertained throughout the night with his up-tempo and cheery announcement of the numbers. He did different voice impersonations as the night drew on as people laughed and offered out other voices he could try like a robot voice, sassy voice, and even a Scooby-Doo voice.
In between matches of Bingo people moseyed toward the bake sale table. The table was chock full of delicious munchies like brownies, muffins and other yummy pastries. The 25-cent coffee was hot and ready to be served as well.
While people ate and lounged about they could also check out the Silent Auction tables and place their bids on the items they had to offer. In the back of the room people were playing an arcade shooter game where people could compete against one another and test the time they could complete the obstacle course in.
The event commenced with one final round of Bingo where everyone playing had three cards to play off of. The person who filled up every square on their card (a blackout) won. The last round had two winners. One person won a gift card to Subway and one person won a card to Chipotle.
Overall the event brought in more than 450 dollars in support of the UNC Student Veteran.
This event is closely followed by another fun one this upcoming Thursday. The Veterans Services will host their annual Military Dinner from six to nine p.m. April 5th at Zoe’s Café.
