The University of Northern Colorado Men’s basketball team rode point guard Jordan Davis’s huge night in an 85-82 point victory over Idaho State.

Davis, the junior starting point guard out of Las Vegas, scored a team high 24 points on 10-15 from the field. Davis also chipped in two assists and a steal in his 31 minutes of action in the Bears victory.

The Bears also got a strong performance from Andre Spight who scored 18 points on 6-14 from the field. Spight was just 1-4 from behind the three-point line, but did a great job getting his teammates involved as he led the Bears in assists with six.

UNC went into the half down 40-32 and used a big 53 point second half to complete the comeback victory over the Bengals. With the win, the Bears pushed their record to 16-9, 7-5 in the Big Sky Conference. The win allowed the Bears to keep pace in the conference standings, while it did the opposite for Idaho State. The Bengals now have a record of 10-12 and are just 5-6 in the conference.

The victory over Idaho State was a great accomplishment for the Bears considering how poorly they shot from behind the arc and at the free-throw line. UNC shot just 3-10 from behind the three-point line, and were an abysmal 22-37 from the charity stripe. What the Bears lacked in terms of free throw and outside shooting, they made up in the paint. UNC outscored Idaho State in the paint 48-36 and was a big factor in the Bears shooting more than 60 percent from the field in the second half.

The Bears also won the turnover battle 14-10 and scored ten more points off of turnovers than the Bengals. Points in the paint and points off turnovers were the big factors that fueled the Bears comeback and ultimately allowed them to prevail over Idaho State. Brandon Boyd, who scored a game high 26 points on 9-15 from the field, led the Bengals on offense.
