  • Finishing a previous undergraduate degree

    Finishing a previous undergraduate degree

    If you applied to UNC but never attended, you will need to reapply through Admissions.

    If you have attended UNC and would like to return to complete your degree, you will need to:

    • Complete the Returning Student Application to update your status.
        • Once we have updated you, you will receive a confirmation email. Please allow 24 hours for processing.
    • Activate Ursa, your online student portal. If you have any problems, please contact technical support at 970-351-4357.
    • Meet with your advisor and get your PIN number. If you do not know who your advisor is or wish to change your major, please contact the department for more information.
    • Register for classes, see pre-registration schedule.
    • Apply for housing or financial aid if needed.

    If you left UNC on academic probation or suspension, please contact Student Academic Success at probation@unco.edu prior to submitting the Student Information Form. They will determine what requirements need to be met for your return.

    If you are unsure if you want to complete your degree and would like an evaluation to determine what requirements are left, please contact our Graduation department at 970-351-4862 option 3 or graduation@unco.edu.

  • Second Bachelor's degree

    Second Bachelor's degree

    If you received a previous Bachelor's degree from another university, you will need to apply through the Admissions office.

    If you received a previous Bachelor's degree from UNC, you may pursue an additional degree in a program different than your first degree. In order to do this, you will need to:

    • Complete the Returning Student Application Form to update your status.
        • Once we have updated you, you will receive a confirmation email. Please allow 24 hours for processing.
        • Contact the department of the new major and have them complete a major/minor change form and return it to the Registrar's Office at Bear Central in the Campus Commons.
        • Meet with your advisor and get your PIN number.
        • Activate Ursa, your online student portal. If you have any problems, please contact technical support at 970-351-4357.
        • Register for classes, see pre-registration schedule.
        • Apply for housing or financial aid if needed.
  • Graduate School

    Graduate School

    If you would like to seek a Graduate Degree at UNC, you will need to apply to the Graduate School.

    If you have attended UNC and would like to return to complete your degree, you will need to:

    • Complete the Returning Student Application to update your status.
      • Once we have updated you, you will receive a confirmation email. Please allow 24 hours for processing.

    If you would like to take a course(s) while awaiting admission to the Graduate School, you may do so by completing the Non Degree Application online.

    • This will allow us to establish you as a non-degree seeking graduate student so you may register for classes. Please note that as a non-degree seeking graduate student you are not eligible for Financial Aid.
    • Please coordinate with your Graduate Program Coordinator to make sure you will receive proper credit for these courses.
  • Non-Degree Seeking

    Visiting Students

    If you are an undergraduate student with a GED or high school diploma, who is not seeking a degree at UNC, you may take a course for personal interest or to transfer to another college or university. Please submit the Non Degree Application online and follow the instructions you will receive in a confirmation email. Please allow 72 hours for this email to arrive.

    Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

    Non-degree seeking Graduate Students

    Returning UNC Student

    If you are returning to UNC to complete courses as a non-degree graduate student, please complete the Returning Student Application to be reinstated. Once you complete the application, you will be notified when your account has been reactivated. 

    New to UNC

    Non-degree seeking graduate status refers to a student who has at least a Bachelor's degree and has either applied to our Graduate School or is wanting to take classes but not pursue a degree. To register as a non-degree seeking graduate student, please submit the Non Degree Application online and follow the instructions you will receive in a confirmation email. Please allow 72 hours for this email to arrive.

    Please note, as a non-degree seeking student, you are not eligible for Financial Aid.
