The Center has both an elementary and special education teacher preparation programs that lead students to a Bachelor’s degree and Colorado teacher licensure. But it is more than that – it is a place where traditional scholarship meets a rich real-world experience in a metropolitan area school classroom – a place where students find a home for learning and growing as teaching professionals.

UNC’s Center for Urban Education Receives Award! - University of Northern Colorado’s Center for Urban Education recently was selected for the 2009 University Continuing Education Association’s Great Plains Credit Program Award.

The bachelor’s degree program prepares students to be elementary, special education or early childhood teachers in contemporary schools and provides the opportunity to immediately apply what they learn in their college courses. Throughout the four-year program, students spend weekday mornings in K-12 classrooms as part of apprenticeships that are supervised by veteran teachers.
