Sociology BA

Sociology offers broad scope and relevance for research, theory and the application of knowledge to address social problems in virtually any work environment. Sociology prepares students with marketable skills for work in both public and private job sectors including the areas of education, health, government, social advocacy and research. Choose a learning path to fit your interests and career goals. UNC offers four areas of emphasis for its Sociology B.A.

Major Requirements

Social Psychology, Family and Life Course

Take a multidisciplinary approach to studying people’s lives within structural, social and cultural contexts. Includes courses in the sociology of mental illness, self in modern society and group dynamics.

Deviance & Social Control

Explore the production and maintenance of social control and the social forces which facilitate deviance. Includes courses in the sociology of law, social policy, juvenile delinquency, sociology of education and violence and the family.

Inequality and Institutions 

Learn about the causes and consequences of social inequality and how this relates to our social institutions and daily lives. Includes classes in the sociology of minorities, disability, gender, religion and social class and inequality.

Online Option

In addition to the Greeley campus program, this program is also offered online through UNC's Extended Campus.

One of the things that students love most about our sociology program is learning how the world works while discovering new and potentially life-changing perspectives. This is especially true in the numerous and diverse experiential learning opportunities you have available. Our students pursue their research interests working with community hospitals and clinics, national church organizations, rescue missions and the park system, just to name a few.
