The University of Northern Colorado‘s Mortar Board chapter was among the outstanding chapters honored at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference in Chicago this summer.
UNC was one of only 31 chapters among 229 in the United States to take home the Golden Torch Award, presented to the most exceptional chapters of Mortar Board who exceed minimum standards, accomplish significant results in chapter management and contribute meaningful service to their institutions.
UNC's chapter also was recognized for teaming up with Colorado College, Colorado State University, the University of Denver, the University of Utah and the University of Wyoming to clean up the Garden of the Gods public park in Colorado Springs.
Chartered in 1972, UNC's Mortar Board chapter currently has 24 members. Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since it's founding in 1918, the society has grown from four collegiate chapters and now has more than a quarter-million members across the nation.
