Aspiring entrepreneurs looking for seed money for new business ventures have just a few days left to enter the third annual Monfort College of Business Entrepreneurial Challenge at the University of Northern Colorado.
"We're awarding $36,000 in prize money during this competition, which can really help an entrepreneur get started," said David Thomas, assistant professor of management and director of the Entrepreneurial Challenge.
Entrepreneurial Challenge applications are due on Monday, November 14. For guidelines and format, visit www.mcb-echallenge.com.
The competition is limited to start-up ventures, and the prize money has increased significantly. The first place winner will receive $18,000, second place $10,000 and the third place prize is $8,000.
The Preliminary Challenge, where semifinalists will have 15 minutes to present their business concept to a panel of experts, will take place on Wednesday, January 18 at the University of Northern Colorado Center at Centerra, located at 2915 Rocky Mountain Ave. in Loveland.
Five finalists will be invited to present their business plans during the Monfort College of Business Entrepreneurial Challenge on Thursday, March 8, at the University Center on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The event will be open to the public and the winners will be announced that night during the BRAVO Entrepreneur Awards, a Northern Colorado Business Report event that the Monfort College of Business is sponsoring.
"Those competing receive a lot of great guidance and feedback from business and entrepreneurial experts," Thomas said. "Our previous winners have gone on to much success, including one of last year's winners, Panda Bicycles, which was recently featured on the Discovery Channel."
