Outfielder Becomes 17th UNC Player Drafted

Junior Jarod Berggren became the 17th player in UNC history to be selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft since 1965. Here's a look at him and the others drafted through the years, courtesy of UNC Athletics.

Berggren, of Broomfield, was drafted in the 32nd round by the Colorado Rockies as the 978th overall pick. He is the first Bear since T.R. Keating in 2008 to be drafted and just the fifth since the Bears began the transition back to Division I in 2004. Berggren is also the first Bear to be drafted by the Colorado Rockies.

In his junior campaign, Berggren was named to the Great West All-Conference First Team after hitting .360 for the season. He led the team with 19 doubles, seven triples and seven home runs for a .646 slugging percentage. As a sophomore, he was also a Great West First Team pick after leading the team with a .392 hitting percentage.
