Student's Research Reveals Risk of Noise Exposure at Hockey Games

Sean Hoverson has attended hundreds of hockey games. Like most fans, the University of Northern Colorado Doctor of Audiology candidate didn’t wear hearing protection, nor did he recognize the need. Conducted over a season of Colorado Eagles games, his doctoral scholarly project, “Spectator Noise Exposures During a Season of Minor League Hockey,” revealed the risk.

Decade of Student-Led Efforts Helping to Create a Sustainable Culture on Campus

Every Tuesday after most classes have ended, a group of students meet inside a conference room in the University Center to discuss new initiatives the university could take on to become more environmentally sustainable. 

Slade Caltrider is the president of Student Leadership for Environmental Action Funds (LEAF) at UNC. He has been involved in the student committee for three years now, starting off in social media outreach then becoming the grant coordinator and finally, the president. Caltrider says the need for environmental advocacy drives his interest in LEAF.

Greeley Native Andrew Alirez Named Big 12 Wrestler of the Year

Andrew Alirez, Sports and Excercise Science Major, was voted the 2023 Big 12 Wrestler of the Year by league coaches after completing a 28-0 season that was highlighted by a Big 12 title as well as an individual national title.

Forging Connections Becomes Key Link to College Success

Looking at the number of programs and organizations Nursing senior Rosemary Gonzalez has been involved in during her time at UNC, it is hard to imagine how she felt first moving to Greeley – an imposter who didn’t belong.  

“I am a first-generation student, so I had to navigate college on my own, which proved to be very difficult,” Gonzalez said.

New Study Explores Overcoming Stigma in Hiring People with Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed 33 years ago this month, on July 26, 1990. Among other things, the law made it illegal to discriminate against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, ensuring they have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. While much progress has been made over the past 30-plus years, many argue it's not enough as people with disabilities remain overrepresented among America’s poor and uneducated. It’s a disparity with far-reaching implications as chances are you either are someone living with a disability or know someone who is.
