UNC Arts Presents Threads of Latin America Concert

Coinciding with its recent federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the university’s last signature concert of the season to deliver an evening of music influenced by Latin America

University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Arts wraps up the 2023-24 Signature Events concert series just in time to celebrate the university’s recent federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution with Threads of Latin America on Monday, April 1, 7:30 p.m., in UNC’s Campus Commons Performance Hall. The concert will feature UNC students directed by Assistant Professor of Percussion Tim Feerst and guest Colombian percussion duo Resonar Latino.

The eclectic program includes works for mixed percussion, some featuring vocals or organ. The Latin American influence is the thread weaving its way throughout this concert, whether through instruments, composers, musical styles or artists. UNC student percussionists will play percussion ensemble pieces such as Carlos Chávez’s Toccata for Percussion Instruments and Rolando Morales-Matos’ Little Rhumba. To round out the concert, Resonar Latino will play a Colombian traditional melody that showcases their exotic instruments and versatility of musical style.

"We are very excited to be sharing this music with our campus and our community,” Feerst said. “The addition of Resonar Latino to this concert makes it that much more special. Trust me when I say you do not want to miss this one."

UNC Arts Signature concert series, which cultivates carefully crafted programs that highlight the skills of UNC students, faculty and guests while connecting to seasonal themes and showing off a wide variety of styles and ensembles. Tickets can be purchased online
