UNC’s Office of Global Engagement is currently hosting a group of 12 student teachers and a chaperone, Professor Youngmi Choi, Ph.D., from the Seoul National University of Education (SNUE), South Korea. This international program from now through Feb. 1, provides a comprehensive academic and cultural immersion experience where faculty and students exchange ideas, engage in global learning opportunities and help promote UNC’s internationalization efforts.

During their time at UNC, the guest students are placed in classrooms at Dos Rios Elementary School in Evans to interact with local teachers and students, observe U.S. classroom teaching styles, learn about best practices in English as a Foreign Language teaching methodologies and intercultural communication. SNUE students also participate in cultural immersion activities throughout Greeley, Denver, and the state of Colorado.

On Jan. 22, UNC held a joint recital with Lei Weng, D.M.A, UNC professor of Piano, and Choi at the Campus Commons Performance Hall, that also featured several international students performing concert piano pieces.

SNUE and UNC have enjoyed a long-standing partnership over the past 10 years. UNC has hosted four SNUE teacher training cohorts and is honored to continue this strong collaboration.
