Traditional Meal Plans

Fall 2011 / Spring 2012 Meal Plans

Meal plans are part of living on campus... studnets who live in a residence hall are required to carry one of the meal plans listed below. Freshmen have 3 options, while upperclasmen have 6 options. Remember, based off a 16-week semester, there are approximately 300 meals served throughout the semester.

Step #1: Choose Your Meal Plan

Freshmen Options:

Freshmen living on-campus can choose from 3 different meal plans, so you can truly choose the one that best fits your lifestyle. Do you want flexibility because you have a full schedule? The 250 or 200 Meal Plans might be right for you. Do you plan on taking advantage of every meal we serve? Then you need the 19 Meal Plan. Dining Dollars are included in all 3 of these meal plans, but you can always add more when you run out.

  • 250 Meal Plan + 100 Dining Dollars = $ 2,990
This meal plan gives you 250 meals to use throughout the semester. You are allowed to swipe your card more than once during a meal period, so take a friend to eat in the dining room & grab a Gourmet To Go or Bear On The Run. Be sure to watch your meal balance, but if you run out of meals before the end of the semester, you can always purchase more at Bear Plan prices. Customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars.
  • 200 Meal Plan + 50 Dining Dollars = $ 2,500
This meal plan acts just like the 250 Meal Plan listed above, only you get 200 meals and 50 dining dollars instead. Be sure to watch your meal balance, but if you run out of meals before the end of the semester, you can always purchase more at Bear Plan prices. Customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars.
  • 19 Meal Plan + 50 Dining Dollars = $ 2,490
This meal plan gives you access to every meal we serve throughout the entire semester. You can swipe your card once per meal during Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Monday-Friday & Brunch and Dinner, Saturday–Sunday. (You are automatically assigned the 19 Meal Plan if a different one isn't chosen before the 10th day of class.) Still want a little flexibility in your meal plan? You can add Guest Passes to this plan. Be sure to customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars and Guest Passes.

If you are a student living on-campus, you will sign up for your meal plan when you’re choosing your housing options. If you want to make any changes, you will need to submit a new contract… either through your housing contract or the online dining contract.

Upperclassmen Options:

Upperclassmen living on-campus can choose from any of the three Traditional Meal Plans listed above or these listed here:

  • 175 Meal Plan + 250 Dining Dollars = $ 2,385
This meal plan acts just like the 250 and 200 Meal Plans listed above, only you get 175 meals and 250 dining dollars instead. Be sure to watch your meal balance, but if you run out of meals before the end of the semester, you can always purchase more at Bear Plan prices. Customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars.
  • 15 Meal Plan (no initial Dining Dollars included) = $ 2,375
This meal plan gives you access to the dining room during Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner: Monday-Friday only. Still want a little flexibility in your meal plan? You can add Guest Passes to this plan. Be sure to customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars and Guest Passes.
  • 14 Meal Plan (no initial Dining Dollars included) = $ 2,335
This meal plan gives you access to the dining room during Lunch and Dinner: Monday-Sunday only. Still want a little flexibility in your meal plan? You can add Guest Passes to this plan. Be sure to customize your meal plan further by adding Dining Dollars and Guest Passes.

Notes: The 19, 15, and 14 Meal Plans are set up to accept only one "swipe" per meal period. The 250, 200, and 175 Meal Plans are flexible... students are able to use unlimited "swipes" per meal period. Students living in the residence halls will automatically be assigned the 19 Meal Plan + 50 Dining Dollars if a different Traditional Meal Plan isn't chosen by the University Published drop deadline. Please remember that all meal plans are good for one semester only.

Step #2: Add Guest Meal Passes

If students carry the 19, 15, or 14 Meal Plan, they are eligible to purchase Guest Passes. Customize your meal plan by adding these meal passes so you can bring guests with you into the dining room.

  • 10 Guest Meal Passes $108

Step #3: Add Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars allows students to purchase food and beverage items at campus retail food locations using their UNC Card. Students who carry the 250, 200, 19, or 175 Traditional Meal Plan will automatically receive Dining Dollars. Any UNC student can purchase Dining Dollars in increments of $25.

Residence Hall Meal Plan Requirements

All students living in a residence hall are required to carry a Traditional Meal Plan throughout the academic year. Freshmen can now choose to carry the 250, 200, or 19 Meal Plan. The 19 Meal Plan will automatically be assigned to all students living in the residence halls in accordance with their housing contract.

Those students living in the residence halls who are at least 20 years old or who have 20 earned credits are eligible to switch to one of the upperclassman options. All meal plan changes must be done by the contract owner by the University published Drop Deadline (10th day of class). Please remember that all meal plans are good for one semester only.
