Dining Services offers a variety of fish options in Tobey-Kendel Dining Room, Holmes Dining Hall, and the University Center Food Court every week. On most Friday’s you will find fish or seafood offered during lunch and dinner, as well as meals throughout the week. It seems that we see an increased consumption of fish by our customers some years. So far this year, we have seen that trend occur. Seafood and fish are healthy options to add to your daily diet, and salmon is one of the healthiest.

Dining Services serves over 3,700 pounds of salmon to our customers through the school year. Our salmon is brought in fresh and fabricated/prepared in-house by our trained culinary staff. You will find it prepared in multiple ways including grilled, blackened, seared, and poached. Salmon cakes, salmon salads, and a wonderful salmon bisque are just a few examples of how salmon is served here at UNC.

Can you believe that over 2 million tons of salmon are consumed worldwide each year? It's one of the most popular fish dishes for restaurants (and consumers alike) for being both versatile and healthy. Whether farm-raised or wild-caught, fish can be an important part of eating a healthy diet. Omega-3 fatty acids found in food (like salmon) have shown to have a broad array of beneficial effects... especially for our cardiovascular system. Eating more fish and less red meat is a good step to better nutrition and health.

You can often find salmon at The DASH line in Tobey-Kendel and Holmes throughout the semester. Visit the Dining Services website to learn more about The DASH serving line and the Smart Meal program we are a part of.
