ACF Western Region Chef Professionalism Award

UNC's very own Executive Chef Aran Essig was presented the American Culinary Federation’s Western Region Chef Professionalism award at the federation’s regional conference held February 6-8, 2010. The award is presented annually to the culinarian who exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism through certification, continuing education and training, culinary competitions and community involvement. Chef Essig is now eligible to receive the national 2010 Chef Professionalism award that will be presented at ACF’s national convention in August. Read the ACF press release about Chef Essig here.

Colorado Chef of the Year Nomination

In 2006, Chef Essig was nominated for Colorado Chef of the year by the Colorado Chef Association. This year, Chef Essig has been nominated for the prestigious National Chef Professionalism Award by the ACF. This award is given to those who have dedicated themselves to the foodservice industry with a high level of passion and who have contributed significantly to the furtherance of the Culinary Arts profession.Chef Essig teaching at the Student Cooking & Nutrition Series held Spring 2004.

UNC Culinary Challenge Winner

Congratulations go out to Suittiphan Ngamtipakon for being the NACUFS (National Association of College and University Food Services) Culinary Challenge Representative from UNC this year. Suittiphan did a great job at UNC's Culinary Challenge on Wednesday, January 31st. David Roth was good competition as they both competed for the opportunity to go to Montana and represent UNC at the NACUFS Continental Region Conference. Suttiphan will have until March 23rd to perfect his dish even more to bring the Culinary Challenge trophy back to UNC!! Update: Suittiphan did great!! He won 2nd place and received a silver medal!! Great Job!
