First-year and transfer students who have not yet declared a major can explore career ideas, potential areas of study and personal strengths in University College’s “Exploring the Liberal Arts” program. Here you can take advantage of advising and programs designed specifically to support your academic success and personal growth and help you transition into the major that best suits you. Develop new friendships and sharpen your skills through a learning community.

In addition to building the foundation of your higher education through the Liberal Arts Core, you can also go outside traditional boundaries to design your own major or pursue interdisciplinary programs to make connections between academic disciplines through interdisciplinary programs. Or you can take full advantage of UNC’s unique status as a doctoral/research university that values undergraduates, and pursue your own independent research.

The purpose of learning is living, as a responsible citizen of your community, your nation, and the world. Translate your academic learning into opportunities to influence others. Through University College programs, you can pursue scholarship at the very highest level while engaging in the task of making a difference as a scholar and a leader. Face a challenge with Undergraduate Research opportunities, tune into the world outside UNC with community-based learning and research, develop your leadership skills, make global connections, and be intellectually rewarded as an academic scholar in the Center for Honors, Scholars, and Leadership.
