Dean Gibbs Announcement

May 16, 2022

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

Having moved to Greeley just a few days ago, I am very pleased to have now joined the university community by serving as Provost of this terrific institution. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Lisa Vollendorf for all the work she accomplished in the last year as Interim Provost. The two of us connected regularly over the last few months – she has been extremely helpful in assisting in my transition to UNC and ensuring that it goes as smoothly as possible. I look forward to meeting many students, faculty members, and staff in the weeks and months ahead as we look to continue to move the institution forward, in alignment with the priorities outlined in the strategic plan.

While I very much look forward to this work, I am writing to share that we will be doing so under the leadership of a new Dean in the Monfort College of Business. Dr. Sher Gibbs, Dean of MCB, has informed me that she will be resigning from her position, effective June 30th, 2022, to assume a dean position at Morehouse College, in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Gibbs has served at UNC for the last two years, leading MCB during some challenging times in the pandemic. Under her leadership, the college has made updates to the business core curriculum, created new programs in Digital Marketing, established new MBA concentrations in Marketing and Accounting Analytics, and developed community engagement initiatives in financial literacy and UNC Innovation Talks, which serve to build the UNC entrepreneurial ecosystem.

To ensure that MCB is under strong leadership after Dr. Gibbs’ departure, I will be initiating a consultation process to make sure we have an interim dean in place in a timely fashion. It is expected that we will soon conduct a national search for the next full-time leader of the college.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Gibbs for her service at UNC and wishing her well in her future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Kirsten Fleming, Ph.D.

Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
