Family Nurse Practitioner
Doctoral Degree for Working Nurses
The B.S.N.-D.N.P., FNP program is designed for nurses with a bachelor’s degree. The D.N.P. is a clinical doctorate, incorporating courses to prepare graduates for the family nurse practitioner (FNP) role and the role of leader in clinical research. As a graduate of the D.N.P. program, you will gain knowledge in leadership, business, finance, policy and informatics in addition to the clinical expertise as a family provider. These skills will empower you to affect health outcomes for not only individual patients and families but also on a more global level.
The D.N.P. program is a part-time, hybrid program with a mixture of online and on campus educational experiences. The nurse practitioner faculty at UNC are dedicated to educating students for the current and future health care environments. The program has a strong focus on underserved and rural populations, preparing advocates for reform in primary health care with the potential for significant positive changes to address health disparity and promote social justice.

B.S.N.-D.N.P. with Family Nurse Practitioner Focus
The program meets the recommended standards for nurse practitioner education set forth by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and the National Task Force (NTF) for Quality Nurse Practitioner Education (2002). Each student will complete a clinical research project focused on improving patient care and implementing evidence into practice settings. The project will be guided by expert faculty and focus on each students’ passion for improving health outcomes.
