SUMMARY:Crossing Barriers: Finding Collaborators and Applications
DESCRIPTION:In this presentation\, Dr. Doug Woody\, Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences\, will address common challenges related to scholarly collaboration and to the applications of our research. Throughout the discussion\, he will emphasize both intentional collaboration strategies and the ways serendipity can enhance scholarly processes and outcomes. \nHe will also address the application of research findings. As with collaboration\, he will consider both traditional and alternative strategies for connecting research outcomes to applied questions inside and outside of academia. \n\nDate: April 15\, 2026\nTime: 2:30-3:30 p.m.\nLocation: McKee Hall 282 or virtual on Zoom\n\nWe hope you will join us for this engaging and thought-provoking session.

SUMMARY:EBS Diversity Speaker
DESCRIPTION:The CEBS Presentation\, hosted by the EBS Diversity and Equity Committee\, will feature our Spring 2026 speaker\, James A. Gambrell\, on April 1\, 2026 from 1:30–2:30 p.m. in McKee 229. Attendance is available in a hybrid format\, and participants may join either in person or virtually on Zoom.\nPresentation Title:\nConnecting Gentrification Processes of Bilingual Education to U.S. Cities: Uncovering Possibilities of Resistance and Transformation\nBio:\nJames A. Gambrell is Professor of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education in the School of Teacher Education at the University of Northern Colorado. His research focuses on bilingual education\, including language policy and planning\, bilingual teacher preparation pathways\, and classroom practices that engage language minoritized students\, families\, and communities.\nAbstract:\nScholars have been using the concept of gentrification to describe the processes by which primarily White\, heritage English speakers have mainstreamed and occupied narratives\, spaces\, and resources in bilingual education. Dr. Gambrell deepens this critique by placing the gentrification metaphor in more literal conversation with processes of urban gentrification\, along with grassroots efforts to resist it. He concludes with a call for education scholars to step outside our micro-fields of scholarship and encourage students to connect\, interrogate\, and disrupt broader societal patterns of injustice. \nWe hope you will join us for this timely and thought-provoking presentation. Please feel free to share this invitation with colleagues and students who may be interested. If you have any questions about this event\, please email Maria Lahman.
