    For Summer 2014 to be eligible for financial aid at UNC:
    • You must be enrolled for 12 semester hours for full-time or at least 6 semester hours for half-time as an undergraduate student.
    • You must be enrolled for 9 semester hours for full-time or at least 5 semester hours for half-time as a graduate student in a degree program.

  • If your summer 2014 financial aid is disbursed before we determine you did not make Satisfactory Academic Progress at the end of the spring 2014 semester, your summer financial aid will be cancelled and you will have to repay any funds received.
  • If you drop below 6 credit hours as an undergraduate or 5 hours as a graduate student or withdraw completely from all summer hours & have had aid disbursed to you, a portion or all of those funds may have to be returned to the aid program(s).  
  • If you fail to attend class(es), you may have to repay part or all of your aid. These funds include but are not limited to any Federal Pell Grants and\or Federal Direct Student Loans.
  • You may be Ineligible for Financial Aid at the end of Summer 2014 term if you do not maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
  • Due to the timing of summer grades, fall 2014-2015 financial aid may not credit until Satisfactory Academic Progress has been reviewed.
  • You may not use fall 2014 aid to pay the summer 2014 bill. Your summer balance must be paid before your fall aid will disburse.


  1. Applicants must have a completed 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( on file with the Office of Financial Aid to be considered for financial aid for summer. Funding for summer term will consist of any remaining Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Subsidized & Unsubsidized Stafford Loans & Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) & Graduate PLUS Loans.  If you accept a loan for summer, you must complete an online Direct Loan Master Promissory Note if you have not already done so. Parent PLUS Loans and Grad Plus Loans will most likely require a new credit check\application at For Grad Plus Loans only, a credit check will be completed when you accept the Grad Plus Loan on your award letter.

  2. Transfer students who have completed a FAFSA for 2013-2014 should check their FAFSA & make sure UNC is listed in the school section.  UNC's school code is 001349.
