August 4, 2023 — The University of Northern Colorado recently received notification from the Colorado Department of Higher Education that CDHE was the victim of a cybersecurity ransomware incident that resulted in the unauthorized copying of personal information stored in their network systems.
March 29, 2023 — The University of Northern Colorado announced the selection of Ken Colwell, Ph.D., as the next dean of the Kenneth W. Monfort College of Business. He will begin his new role July 1, 2023.
March 27, 2023 — The University of Northern Colorado announced that Jim Doerner will become the next dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS).
October 13, 2022 — After a national search launched earlier this year, the University of Northern Colorado Foundation has selected Tony Troxell as its next president. He officially stepped into his role on Sept. 16.

June 22, 2022 — The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Jacquie Rich Fredericks, Ed.D., J.D., as the university’s next vice president, general counsel and secretary to the Board of Trustees. Fredericks, who has worked for the Colorado Department of Law (DOL) for the past 11 years, will begin at UNC on Aug. 15.
May 20, 2022 — The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is pleased to announce the hiring of Jennifer Almquist, Ph.D., as the university’s next chief of staff. Almquist, who comes to UNC with nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, will begin in her new role on June 23.
April 12, 2022 — The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is thrilled to announce the selection of Dr. Beth Longenecker as the Founding Dean of the university’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC-COM). Longenecker, who was hired after the university launched a national search in December, will start her position in June.
November 24, 2021 — David Hulac, Ph.D., a professor of School Psychology in the College of Educational and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado, has been chosen as the 2022 Winchester Distinguished Scholar by UNC's Faculty Research and Publications Board.
October 1, 2021 — University of Northern Colorado (UNC) has chosen Cedric Howard, Ed.D., as the university's new vice president for Student Affairs. Howard, who was selected through a national search the university launched last May, will start his position on Dec. 6, 2021.
August 9, 2021 — This August, the Bears are back to school in a big way. There are many on-campus events planned, and UNC has partnered with Greeley to paint the town blue and gold, with “This is Bear Country” signs appearing in yards and at businesses throughout the area.
June 17, 2021 — University of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein announced on June 17 that Lisa Vollendorf, Ph.D., has been appointed as interim provost for the 2021-22 academic year. Vollendorf brings 26 years of higher education experience to UNC and has held numerous leadership roles, including provost, dean, department chair and Academic Senate chair. She will start her new role on July 1, 2021.
June 7, 2021 — UNC's Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee announces faculty members who were recently awarded stipends to transform a course from using commercial texts and course materials to implementing OER for fall 2021.
May 19, 2021 — UNC Associate Professor of Biological Sciences Emily Holt, Ph.D., has been selected as the recipient of the 2021 Sears Helgoth Distinguished Teaching Award.
May 13, 2021 — The UNC Graduate School has announced the recipients of awards recognizing superior academic achievement and outstanding research in graduate studies.
May 8, 2021 — Northern Colorado athletics has announced the hiring of Kristen Mattio as the next head Women's Basketball coach.
April 8, 2021 — The Sears Helgoth Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes UNC's commitment to high-quality and innovative teaching along with the historical importance of the teaching mission at UNC by rewarding faculty members (tenured, tenure-track, contract renewable) who have made outstanding contributions to teaching and learning.
March 31, 2021 — UNC has announced that Kamel Haddad, Ph.D., will become the next dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences.
March 5, 2021 — UNC employees were honored during this year's Employee Appreciation Week. This annual event recognizes and celebrates everyone who makes UNC a special place.
February 4, 2021 — UNC's Adopt-A-Spot Program started in 2008 with the goal of fostering civic engagement and campus pride. This year, participants are needed to continue the tradition of campus beautification.
November 30, 2020 — Karen Barton, Ph.D., a professor of Geography in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNC, has been chosen as the 2021 Winchester Distinguished Scholar by UNC's Faculty Research and Publications Board.
October 1, 2020 — The Division of Academic Affairs has implemented organizational changes over the last several months to improve the division’s structure.
September 22, 2020 — The McNair Scholars Program, which prepares students from disadvantaged backgrounds for graduate school through research and other scholarly activities, has announced its 2020 McNair Research Award winners.
September 8, 2020 — The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Northern Colorado has established organizational changes to better serve the campus community.
May 14, 2020 — The UNC Open Educational Resources (OER) Committee is pleased to announce the 2020 faculty OER awardees. The committee, made up of faculty, students and staff from across campus, reviewed many excellent applications and made the recommendations for funding.
May 12, 2020 — The Graduate School has announced the recipients of awards recognizing superior academic achievement and outstanding research in graduate studies.

February 25, 2020 — The UNC injected $544.2 million into the regional economy during fiscal year 2017-18 and supported 8,429 jobs, or one out of every 48 jobs in Weld and Larimer counties, according to an economic study released Wednesday.

October 28, 2019 — UNC's emergency preparedness team will closely monitor weather conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of the state, including Greeley, from 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, to noon Wednesday, Oct. 30.
October 11, 2019 — The UNC Graduate Student Association (GSA) is searching for any campus groups interested in having Nikki Seymour come and speak on her research and/or areas of expertise. She is a Colorado State University (CSU) Geosciences doctoral student that studies how the Earth's tectonic plates move.

April 29, 2019 — In an effort to prevent thefts, the UNC Police Department regularly removes bicycles left in the racks after spring semester. This year will be after May 5.

April 8, 2019 — An anti-abortion demonstration Monday and Tuesday staged by a group unaffiliated with UNC will include visual displays on the lawn west of McKee Hall.
March 29, 2019 — Several administrative offices are being relocated to spaces in Carter Hall vacated by the student services offices that moved to the Campus Commons earlier this month.

January 30, 2019 — During a follow-up cost-savings presentation to campus Tuesday, University of Northern Colorado President Andy Feinstein shared the university-wide options and the division-level cost-saving model that are under consideration to eliminate the $10 million structural deficit by fiscal year 2021 — the first step toward strategically investing in the future and “moving the institution forward.”
January 30, 2019 — UNC Board of Trustees on Friday approved amending the section of the Board Policy Manual that covers conflict of interest on Jan. 24, 2019.
January 4, 2019 — Research Evening provides UNC graduate students the opportunity to present their projects from research classes. Participating graduate students are also eligible for the Hutchinson-Lahman Research Award.
November 16, 2018 — UNC’s Board of Trustees on Friday approved updating two academic programs: one that consolidates foreign language fields of study for undergraduates, and another that replaces an existing graduate track for teacher candidates.
October 23, 2018 — The President’s Leadership Council continued its work on potential cost-saving measures at its Oct. 22 meeting. The council has identified 13 options to explore and will be discussing advantages, disadvantages, and financial implications of each in the coming weeks.

September 11, 2018 — A test of UNC's Emergency Alert Messaging System will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The test message will be sent to UNC email accounts, text-enabled campus phones, subscribed cell phones (text and voice messages) and campus emergency poles.
