Filmmaker to Attend Screening of ‘The Land of Many Palaces’

Documentary filmmaker Adam Smith will attend a free screening of The Land of Many Palaces at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Michener Library's Lindou Auditorium. Smith's film examines China's "ghost cities" and the government's effort to relocate peasants and farmers from the countryside to newly built and modern cities, many of which lie dormant and empty. Smith follows one government worker as he tries to convince the peasants that their lives would be improved in the cities.

The screening and Smith's lecture is hosted by the Asian Studies Program, with the sponsorship of the departments of Modern Languages, Geography, History and A/PASS.
