Professional/Academic Experience

My name is Pepper Mueller and I am the Instructor and Advisor of the McNair Scholars Program. I am a first generation college student who received my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Colorado in Boulder and my Master’s degree in Clinical Sociology from the University of Northern Colorado.  I have worked in a variety of fields from radio and audio production to non-profit management.  I began at UNC in 2007 as an administrative assistant in the Anthropology and Geography Departments moving into a full time adjunct teaching position in Sociology.  I have also taught at Aims Community College and in other departments at UNC including Leadership Studies, Life of the Mind and Honors.  Most recently, I served as a full time academic advisor in the office of Major Exploration and Academic Probation, which changed to the name SOAR just before my departure to teach and advise for McNair.  When not working with UNC students, I enjoy spending time with my two adult sons, Cole and Bennett (also a UNC student) and my husband, Brad.  Most weekends you can find me in the mountains hiking, backpacking, or at theatrical or musical performances locally or playing board games with friends.
