UNC has had a strong military connection since the early 20th century. Throughout various conflicts, wars, and disasters at home and abroad, Veteran Bears have answered the call.
As the Director of Veterans Services at UNC, I am proud to join this community and help keep that tradition of service alive in Greeley. Although maybe not on the forefront of everyone’s mind since the drawdown of U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are still approximately 200,000 service members stationed throughout the world, some of them in harm’s way. As a nation, we must continue to support returning service members and their families as much as possible.
Some of those veterans and their family members come to UNC! We currently support over 500 veteran and military-affiliated students at Roudebush Cottage. This is through a combination of staff support, scholarship opportunities, and programs, such as our brand new peer support program, PAVE (in partnership with the University of Michigan and 40+ campuses nationwide). It is our mission that we assist veteran and military-affiliated Bears during their transition to campus, and we’re always looking for ways to improve and strengthen the work we do here to make that happen.

This is a great opportunity to get involved, support veterans, and get a great workout. We will be racing the morning of Saturday, November 6, just ahead of Veteran’s Day (11/11/2021).
We’re back to running around campus, though registrants who want to participate remotely can still do so. Proceeds from the race go to the UNC Veterans Scholarship, distributed to student veterans in financial need in order to support their academic success.
We will start at Roudebush Cottage, home of UNC Veterans Services at 9:00 a.m. Participants can run or walk the race, and feel free to bring strollers or furry friends along too.
Our course ends at the 2021 UNC Football Tailgate! Join us there as we have some fun and get ready to watch the UNC Bears take on the Montana Grizzlies in the last home game of the season during our Military Appreciation Game.
