Fall is approaching and with it brings yet another Homecoming weekend. Although this Homecoming may look different with social distancing restrictions in place, we are excited to provide the Homecoming programming that you love in unique formats. With that Campus Rec invites the entire UNC community (current, past, and future) and its family and friends to participate in the 2020 Virtual Homecoming 5K!
The Homecoming 5K has been hosted by Campus Rec for over a decade now. Each year the event is fueled by great sponsors like UNC Club Running, Altitude Running and Scheels. Last year we were joined by over 75 participants on a sunny morning outside the Campus Recreation Center. We are excited to grow the event this year by introducing online registration that will be available to any member of the general public.
We certainly wish that we could see you all at the starting line Saturday of Homecoming weekend, but instead here is how our virtual format will work. All participants who register between September 28 and October 8 will complete their Homecoming 5K anywhere they want on either Friday October 9, Saturday October 10, or Sunday October 11.
Tracking My Homecoming Run
Participants will need to record their 5K run by using a running app on their smartphone (or smart watch) such as Strava, runkeeper, MapMyRun, or the Nike running app. Participants will then take a screenshot of their completed run and send that screenshot to uncorunning@gmail.com.
All participants that complete the run will be eligible to win our Campus Rec and Scheels swag prize packages. The event is free to participate in! At registration our 2020 long sleeve performance blend event shirt will be available for purchase (i.e. $15 to pick up at the Campus Recreation Center, $20 if the shirt needs to be shipped to the participant).
