The third most common reason parents cease breastfeeding/chestfeeding/lactating in Colorado is because of returning to work or school. Since 2012, UNC has offered an inclusive Lactation Support Program to assist individuals to continue their lactation journey. This program is directed by Alena Clark, PhD, MPH, RDN, CLC, Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Yvette Lucero-Nguyen, MPH, Director of the Center for Women’s and Gender Equity. The Lactation Support Program offers eight Lactation Stations throughout campus where individuals can express their milk in a private place, a lactation support policy for students, staff and faculty and a privacy screen rental program. We have had over 2,000 visits to our Lactation Stations in the past eight years! For more information, please visit UNC’s Lactation Support Program website.

This fall semester we will be offering Virtual Lactation Peer Support Groups once a month at 4 p.m. MST on the following days:

  • Wednesday, October 14
  • Wednesday, November 11
  • Wednesday, December 2

The support groups will be facilitated by Lisa Caldwell, MS, RDN, Lecturer and Distance Dietetic Program Coordinator in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. Lisa is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and has provided lactation support and guidance for many communities in Colorado and Wyoming.

The support groups are open to any UNC student, faculty, staff and support partners of a UNC student, faculty, or staff member. We would love you to join us!
