Sport and Exercise Science Institute

The Leadership Enrichment Program (LEP) accepts 24 high school students who are entering their junior and senior years. The focus is on understanding one's personal, unique gifts and talents, learning about leadership styles and developing traits and characteristics of leadership. They spend three periods a day on leadership topics and one period assisting an SEP teacher for a class of their choice. They assist SEP counselors with afternoon and evening options and teach mini-courses on the Saturday between the weeks of their session. Special activities, meals and creative options make LEP unique and memorable.

Four day volleyball development camp with 21 instructional hours. Designed to improve individual skills level and will end with game play and a camp tournament. All camps are open to boys and girls in grades 3-12.

Our 5 day technique camp is designed for individuals ages 8-18 who seek advanced techniques and skills that help each wrestler reach their individual potential. Troy Nickerson’s UNC Wrestling Camp system is designed to work equally well for both highly accomplished and beginner wrestlers. All skills taught are proven to work against all levels of competition.

2018 marks the 41st year of the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) serving children and youth who are gifted, talented, and/or creative in a supportive academic and social setting. Designed for students entering 5th grade through 10th grade, this residential program offers high interest, hands-on, brains-on courses developed by specialists in gifted education and/or in specialized content areas. On the day they arrive, students select courses for their two week session. Courses meet daily during four 75 minute periods. After classes are done for the day participants choose a variety of "options" varying from active sports and recreation, craft activities and time to visit with new and old friends. Students come to SEP from around 25 states, provinces and foreign countries. Dorm counselors who are college age and older supervise students during all hours that the students are not in class.

During this two day band leadership, PA Professor Heidi Sarver joins the team to add further practical applications of the lessons learned over this intense 2 day program. Sessions alternate between working with the students inside to introduce new concepts and perspectives. These are immediately put to practice outside as Professor Sarver utilizes excerpts from proven Drum Major Academy curriculum exercises.

Designed to be intensive, challenging, and inspiring, the UNC Jazz Camp is led by faculty from the University of Northern Colorado and special guests Don Aliquo, Clay Jenkins, and Paul McKee. This is the chance for middle school through college-aged students to be a part of student big bands, combos, vocal jazz ensembles, jazz master classes, jazz theory and listening classes, student jam sessions, nightly faculty group concerts, and a special performance by the Colorado Jazz Orchestra. Previous band or choir experience required.

The Bear Kids Camp will be divided and run as two separate camps this year. Bear Camp will be for girls going into 3rd-8th grade, & Cub Camp is offered to boys & girls, ages 5-8. In each camp, campers will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and learn the fundamentals of basketball through a variety of drills and games. Bears & Cubs will also compete in Free Throw, Hot Shot, and 1 on 1 contests. Awards will be given the last day. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and basketball.
