Information for Undergraduate Students
Apply for Graduation
Graduates must apply for graduation to participate in the ceremony.
Apply by March 5 to have your name printed in the ceremony program. Graduates who apply after the deadline will be able to walk and have their name read at their ceremony.
Share your journey to graduation, inspire your graduating class, and emphasize what is important to you while sharing your talents with friends and family.
Undergraduate students who have at least a 2.8 GPA can apply to be the student speaker for the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony through the Undergraduate Council. By submitting your application, you authorize the selection committee to access and review your grades, enrollment status, and conduct records.
The deadline to submit application materials is Sunday, March 5 by 11:59 p.m.
Cap and Gown Rental
Your years of hard work are almost complete, and your cap and gown are important symbols of your achievement. Order your cap and gown online through Herff Jones and choose to have your regalia shipped directly to you or pick it up on campus. Rental orders must be placed online by 9:59 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday April 1, 2023. Gowns and hoods must be returned following the ceremony.
Regalia Rental Policies
UNC partners with Herff Jones to provide regalia rental to all graduates. Please see their policies below.
Graduation with honors is determined on your cumulative grade point average, of at least 56 UNC semester hours, at the time of degree completion:
- Summa Cum Laude: 3.9 – 4.0
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.8 – 3.89
- Cum Laude: 3.7 – 3.79
If you meet the qualifications, including grades earned during your final semester, you will have Latin Honors designated on your diploma and official transcript.
Now that you’ve walked across the stage, you’re almost done!
The only things left are to receive your diploma and request your transcripts — tasks that we make easy.
