Music Education System in Ljubljana, Slovenia

This course is closed and registration is no longer open. 

An intensive field experience in Ljubljana, Slovenia, which introduces participants to the unique public music education system (separate from general education), including methods and outcomes. Course occurs after the spring semester final exams week.

  • Students will learn about the public music education system (separate from general education) in Slovenia.
  • Students will observe teaching methods and pedagogical approaches in their discipline.
  • Students will observe and experience the outcomes of this system from age 6 to 24.

Eligibility

Students taking this course will have completed MUS 215 (Music Theory IV) and MUS 216 (Aural Skills IV).

Current undergraduate UNC students can register for this course. You must have 24 credit hours completed by the time of departure with a minimum GPA of 2.5, and a clean disciplinary record at UNC. Spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible applicants.

Current UNC graduate and non-degree seeking graduate students can register for this course. Non-degree seeking graduate status refers to a student who has at least a Bachelor's degree and has either applied to our Graduate School and not yet been admitted or is wanting to take classes but not pursue a degree. 

 Remember, if you are non-degree seeking student you are not eligible for Financial Aid.

Costs

$400 deposit paid to UNC and due with application. Non-refundable unless application is denied or course is canceled. 

$1,104 paid to UNC and due with summer semester tuition. These UNC billed costs include tuition for 3 credits, in-country transport, lodging, daily breakfast, excursions, insurance and admin fees.

Total UNC Tuition and Fees: $1,504

Other costs, not billed by UNC are estimates and will vary by person and are purchased individually:  

  • Airfare: $1,500
  • Meals: $500
  • Passport: $135

Total other costs (estimated): $2,135

Billing

You will be billed for the remaining program cost around the beginning of the academic term in which the course is delivered.

Any course material costs are assessed and paid separately.
