For Web Authors

Creating / maintaining your site

Many UNC Web authors have the ability to create a Web site for a department or program. There are two general types of knowledge necessary to create and/or maintain a site:

  1. Familiarity with university Web Guidelines
  2. General knowledge of what it takes to make a site usable

This section is concerned with item #2.

Web page creation has become more complex in recent years, with requirements for XHTML, use of cascading style sheets, addition of new browsers and accessibility design for users with disabilities. These are in addition to the need for user friendly navigation and writing styles.

Wondering about your site's quality? Test it with users and/or ask the Web Communications Office for an evaluation. There are also some excellent resources in the books section of this site.
