Sharing Campus Activities

April 19, 2007

Dear Campus Community,

I am proud of the tremendous outpouring of support our campus is showing for those affected by the tragedy at Virginia Tech. I’d like to tell you about several things that are planned for the next few days.

Tomorrow will be an “Orange and Maroon Effect” day to honor those who were killed at Virginia Tech and to support the Virginia Tech campus community. I encourage you to wear orange and maroon to show your support. More information about this national effort is online.

On Monday, April 23, I hope you will join me at a candlelight vigil being hosted by Housing & Residence Life and the Student Representative Council. It will be at 9 p.m. at Garden Theater.

From now until Monday, April 30, cards to be sent to Virginia Tech will be available for you to sign at the front desk of the University Center.

In response to your questions about emergency preparedness, the UNC Police Department has added two Emergency Response Plan Employee Awareness sessions to its training schedule. The classes will be 1-2 p.m. April 25 and 10-11 a.m. May 1, both at the University Center, Aspen C. More information is on the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) Web site. To register or to ask questions, e-mail cetl@unco.edu or call 351-2885.

I would also like to reassure you that we are aware that tomorrow’s date represents some significant anniversaries, and we will continue our heightened police presence across campus.

If you have information about other events that are planned on our campus, please e-mail it to unctoday@unco.edu.

Sincerely,

Kay Norton
