Hey! My name is Meg, and I'm a senior here at the University of Northern Colorado studying Political Science and History. I was born in San Diego, California and moved to Colorado when I was nine. I wanted to go back to the West Coast for college, but after spending three semesters in northern Los Angeles I missed the beautiful Rocky Mountains and knew I wanted to come home. I was drawn to UNC because it is a larger state school, but I loved the small class sizes and the fact I could walk anywhere in only a few minutes. It is very affordable, even as a transfer student and graduating without a lot debt is a huge plus. When I toured UNC before committing to transfer, I felt very welcomed and enjoyed the collegiate atmosphere of the campus. As a first-generation college student, I feel like I am able to get so much out of my small class sizes, and know my professors genuinely care about my success! I’ve also taken advantage of the social opportunities at UNC. I’m the President of the Political Science & International Affairs Club, I play intramural soccer, and I also enjoy studying ballet and American Sign Language (ASL). In the future, I'm hoping to continue on the academic track and pursue a Ph.D. in either War Studies or American History.
1) I'm a prizewinner Irish step dancer. The jig force is strong with this one.
2) I worked at an orphanage and school in Haiti during the summer of 2013 where I communicated in (bad) French and Haitian Creole.
3) Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine is my 26th great-grandmother. I'm still searching for a way to make a distant descendant of royalty into a viable career option, but so far I'm out of luck.
Hanging out by Northern Vision at sunset. It's really beautiful!
Try things you didn't experience in high school and cast a wide net! I love hanging out with my Political Science club and going to fun events like the Model Arab League conference we attended in March. Additionally, I found a love for both American Sign Language and ballet, both of which I'm able to pursue here at UNC! College is about creating the best version of yourself. Keep in mind, even if something is not offered as a class, it might be offered as a club. You can even start your own!
