Dan received his Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Literature from Ozark Christian College located in Joplin, MO. He went on to receive his Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.
Dan joined the US Navy right out of high school and served seven years as a Radioman / Information Systems Technician before separating as an E-6 (Petty Officer 1st Class) to pursuit his education. He deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf while serving onboard the USS Ashland (LSD-48) participating in Operation Southern Watch in 1997-98. He is grateful for the opportunity to travel around the world and explore different cultures while serving our country. Dan’s post-military time has been served as a partner and father, volunteer fire fighter, first responder, and numerous positions mentoring and counseling teens and veterans.
While at UNC, Dan has implemented various programs and policy changes to ensure military student success. One of his greatest achievements is the VetZone training program for faculty and staff designed to create a supportive campus community for military connected students. VetZone allows faculty and staff to better guide and assist this student population by gaining greater knowledge about campus and community resources focused on military student success. Over four hundred UNC faculty and staff have been trained since 2013 and Dan has held VetZone training at conferences and other institutions as well to better assist their military population.
Dan currently serves on the UNC ROTC board which provides guidance to the Army and Air Force ROTC programs at UNC. He is also a member of the Professional Administrative Staff Council (PASC) and the Salary and Compensation board which provides insight to university leaders on staff issues and salary equality. His PASC membership currently allows him to serve on the Student Senate as the PASC representative working with student leadership. Outside of UNC, Dan is a member of the Greeley Future Farmers of America (FFA) board.
