Thomas Smith, Ph.D.

Dr. Thomas SmithTom Smith is Assistant Vice President for Undergraduate Studies and Dean of  University College at the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to his arrival at UNC in 2006 he spent 18 years at Loyola University New Orleans, where he served as a faculty member, chair of the Department of Religious Studies, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and interim Vice President for Student Affairs/Associate Provost. He was a three-time recipient of Loyola’s Student-Alumni Association Citation for Excellence in Teaching.

Dr. Smith received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Washington, diploma and master’s degree from Regent College (University of British Columbia), and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of a book and numerous book chapters and articles on topics in the early history of Christianity. In addition to his duties as University College Dean, he oversees undergraduate curriculum, supervises the Army and Air Force ROTC detachments, and teaches occasionally in UNC’s Philosophy program, where he holds the rank of Professor.
