Explore, Expand, Engage

Waiting to decide on a major or want to design your own? Want to grow as a leader, engage with fellow students and your community? University College at UNC offers opportunities for students who want to explore new ways of thinking. This new college encompasses programs including the Center for Honors, Scholars and Leadership, Interdisciplinary Studies including self-designed majors, Academic Support and Advising, Liberal Arts Core classes and New Student Orientation.  From a comprehensive introduction to university life to civic engagement and interdisciplinary programs, University College will help you find the path that is right for you.

Explore

First-year and transfer students who have not yet declared a major can explore career ideas, potential areas of study and personal strengths in University College’s “Exploring the Liberal Arts” program. Here you can take advantage of advising and programs designed specifically to support your academic success and personal growth and help you transition into the major that best suits you. Develop new friendships and sharpen your skills through a learning community.

Expand

In addition to building the foundation of your higher education through the Liberal Arts Core, you can also go outside traditional boundaries to design your own major or pursue interdisciplinary programs to make connections between academic disciplines through interdisciplinary programs. Or you can take full advantage of UNC’s unique status as a doctoral/research university that values undergraduates, and pursue your own independent research. Engage

The purpose of learning is living, as a responsible citizen of your community, your nation, and the world. Translate your academic learning into opportunities to influence others. Through the Center for Honors, Scholars, and Leadership, you can pursue scholarship at the very highest level while engaging in the task of making a difference as a scholar and a leader.
